CISANET Challenged to Find Markets

Minister of Agriculture, Lobin Lowe has urged Civil Society Agriculture Network (CISANET) to start creating wealth by finding more markets for the farmers.

Speaking to Malawi News Agency Thursday in Lilongwe at 2020 CISANET open day on the Theme Making Agriculture Work in Malawi, he said that it was time we start making profits from the farm produce.

"We have been producing for so long without having a market for our produce that makes us not to progress. Now I am happy that we are talking about agri-business which we will make us find markets.

"As Civil society, you need to do more, am glad that you have come up with this idea on how to make agriculture work in the country this will help us to come together on how best we can do with our farm produce for profitable," he said.

The Minister said that government was ready and the door is open for Civil society to come up with ideas which they think could take the action to another level.

"Government is ready to work hand in hand with civil society for the betterment of this nation. We need to value addition to our produce so that we can generate more income," Lowe said.

He added that for that to happen there is a need for togetherness not point weaknesses of government.

"Let us work together without blaming government that is not doing anything to help farmers. As civil society I believe they can also do a lot in creating those markets for our farmers so that as a nation we can work for the common goal," Lowe said.

CISANET National Director, Pamela Kuwali said Malawi is good at making policies but when it comes to implementation of it is a problem.

"This is the beginning if we can be having these kinds of engagements time after time and keep focusing on the issues of our key priorities and what we can do about them.

“It is the process which needs all of us to work together and make sure who is going to be responsible and what are we going to need to make sure that we are addressing those challenges," she said.
