Traditional Authority (T/A) Phambala of Ntcheu has called stakeholders in the district for a consecrated efforts in the fight against HIV/Aids arguing it is key in reducing the pandemic.

Phambala told Zodiak Online during District World Aids and Candlelight Day Commemorations at Ntonda that such efforts have the potential to influence behaviour change among communities towards the disease.

"The pandemic has claimed many citizens who could have contributed to the socio-economic development in our respective societies. This a cause of worry and needs continued efforts from stakeholders aimed at reducing the trend," said Phambala.

On his part, Ntcheu District Council, Principal Nutrition and HIV/AIDS Officer, Martin Pindamkono urged people in the district to go for HIV testing besides adherence to treatment as failing so risk transmission to others.

He has since reaffirmed the government's commitment to fighting against the disease as various interventions are being taken on the same.

"While government is committed to fighting the pandemic, communities also need to take responsibility in protecting each other to avoid spreading the disease by among others go for HIV testing," he said.

Currently, HIV/AIDS prevalence for Ntcheu district stands at 7.7%.
