Government has finally gazetted the new Covid-19 disease preventive measures that will now guide the country in the fight against pandemic.

The presidential task force announced this on Monday during the daily update in Lilongwe, where ministry of health Khumbize Chiponda and information minister Gospel Kazako called upon Malawians to join hands at the time the country is losing lives and the economy affected.

Among other things, the committee has announced that those found in defiance of wearing a face mask will be subjected to a ten-thousand-kwacha fine.

On Sunday night, President Lazarus Chakwera announced the new Covid-19 restrictions, which he said government would gazette.

Monday, the Covid-19 task force announced that the new measures had been gazetted, among them a ten thousand kwacha fine imposed on anyone found without wearing a mask in public, and a 60 percent sitting capacity in public transport.

Minister of Health Khumbize Chiponda went on to announce that public gatherings are restricted to fifty people, all markets to open from 6 in the morning to 5 in the evening, while entertainment joints will be allowed to operate between 2 pm and 8 pm.

Information Gospel Kazako also called upon Malawians to join hands at the time the country is losing lives and the economy affected.

At the time the Committee went to the briefing, the country had registered 557 new cases, 44 recoveries, and seven deaths.

Cumulatively, the country has recorded 13,027 positive cases and 321 deaths.
