MHRC Calls For PPEs For All

The Malawi Human Rights Commission MHRC has called on the government to consider providing personal protective equipment to all Malawians regardless of age.

MHRC Executive Secretary Habiba Osman told Zodiak yesterday that much as the human rights body appreciates the new preventive guidelines, government should make sure that the rights to education and life should be safeguarded at all times in the midst of the global pandemic.

"Every person must have access to PPEs regardless of age, status, sex, and everything else," Osman said.

Minister of Health Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda says government will use part of the 17 billion-kwacha COVID-19 funds to produce masks for people who cannot afford them.

"Government will use the 17 billion -kwacha covid19 funds to provide for those who cannot afford to buy a mask and other equally important equipment needed to fight the pandemic," Chiponda said.

Meanwhile, the National Organisation for Nurses and Midwives Council of Malawi is pushing for the fast-tracking of the recruitment process of additional health workers in the country.

The appeal, from the organization’s President Shouts Simeza comes at a time government intends to open extra Covid-19 treatment facilities in some parts of the country.
