UK Based Group Bails Out Kasungu DHO With PPEs

Kasungu District Health Office has been shot in the arm with assorted personal protective equipment worth Millions of kwacha from a UK based group called Friends of Kasungu.

This is coming at a time the district is experiencing an increase in Covid19 cases every day.

Kasungu District Covid 19 focal person, Chikondi Mandalasi told Zodiak online the district health office is grateful for the support it is getting from individuals and institutions to equip the facility to ably respond to Covid 19.

"We are at the time that our financial and human resources can never be enough to fight the pandemic. We are so grateful for the PPEs from friends of Kasungu in UK," he said.

Mandalasi says with Covid 19 showing no signs of slowing down, the demand for PPEs is high to protect health workers from contracting the virus.

"We need PPEs every day to protect ourselves and the patients, so the donation is timely."

A representative of the group, Martin Chirwa said members of the group mobilized the resources in UK to equip the hospital to respond to the pandemic.

Chirwa says while they know that the PPEs would not be enough, a half bread would be better than non.

Among the items are infrared thermometers, surgical masks, heavy-duty gloves, gumboots, disposable aprons to mention some.

"The protection of front-line workers is key at this critical time if we are to fight the disease, "he said.

He said with a surge in front-line workers testing positive, it would paralyze the efforts to treating critically ill patients hence the donation.

In Kasungu, about thirty health care workers were confirmed covid 19 positive since the second wave of the pandemic hit the district early this year.

One nurse died of the pandemic recently.
