30 Arrested, 56 Fined for Breaching COVID-19 Rules

Police in Ntchisi district have arrested 30, people for Contravening Covid-19 rules.

According to Ntchisi police publicist, sub-inspector, Richard Kaponda, the Suspects have been arrested on Saturday evening, in areas of Khuwi Trading Centre, Ng'ombe Trading Centre, Ntchisi District Hospital area, Ntchisi (BOMA) and Malomo Trading Centre.

"Out of the 30 suspects 1, is a female and 29 are males," Kaponda said.

The Suspects will appear before the Court of law soon after the completion, of the investigations, and their ages range from 24 to 39.

Meanwhile, First Grade Magistrate court in Lilongwe yesterday fined 56 people for failing to comply with covid-19 guidelines.

Lilongwe Police deputy public relations officer, Sergeant Foster Benjamin, said the people have paid fines ranging from 5 to 10 thousand kwacha.

These were arrested on Friday night in Mogasa, M1 Center Point and Chigwirizano after they were found operating bars and some in drinking joints after 8pm.
