Minister of Health, Khumbize Chiponda has commended Lilongwe Water Board (LWB) for its commitment to supporting government in the fight against Covid-19 pandemic in the country.

She made the remarks when LWB donated various Covid-19 fight medical supplies including; 150 oxygen cylinders and a corresponding water bowser which would be supplying water for a period of three months at Covid-19 field hospital situated at Bingu National Stadium (BNS) in Lilongwe.

Chiponda said that LWB’s gesture was timely saying it would help in saving the lives of Covid-19 patients in the country particularly those who are admitted at BNS field hospital.

“We are very grateful with what LWB has done, their assistance is very timely as BNS field hospital was in need of the equipment which have been donated by LWB hence this will help to save lives of many Covid-19 patients at the field hospital,” she said.

The Minister advised medical staff at the field hospital to take care of the equipment so that should work towards its intended purpose.

“There have been reports that some people are conniving with some health workers to steal oxygen cylinders from our hospitals which is very unfortunate, the equipment which are being donated are there to help all Malawians.

“My plea to the health workers is that they should get good care of the equipment so that should be used for its intended purpose,” she said.

LWB Board Chairperson, George Kajanga said that LWB decided to support the fight against Covid-19 pandemic after the board realizes its corporate social responsibility.

“The support is part of our corporate social responsibility as we feel duty-bound to take part in the efforts being undertaken by various stakeholders to join the government in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.

Kajanga urged the corporate world to complement government’s efforts in the fight against Covid-19 pandemic.
