About seven hundred qualified but jobless Community Midwifery Assistants have requested President Lazarus Chakwera to hire them within five days or they will do unspecified action.

These are frontline professionals in maternal health.

"Our absence has affected maternal health service delivery in the country since there are limited professionals in the sector," she claimed.

They are frontline professionals in maternal health, especially in Malawi’s rural areas.

Government introduced the cadre in Nursing colleges after banning Traditional birth attendants.

Director of Administration at the Lilongwe City Council Mussa Mwale said when the health care workers presented the petition today that their concerns will be forwarded to concerned parties.

Said Mwale, "we have received your petition, and be assured that by today (Friday) will deliver it to responsible authorities.”

Government is also under pressure to hire some cadres of health professionals like nurses to ease pressure on their high unemployment rate.

President Lazarus Chakwera promised to hire nurses that can help to manage covid-19.
