Govt Elevates Four Chiefs In Kasungu

The Ministry of local government and rural development has today Friday 19th of February 2021 elevated four chiefs in Kasungu.

Three of them namely Wimbe, Chilowamatambe, and Kawamba have attained a status of Senior Chiefs from traditional authorities while Group Village Kalikokha is now Sub Traditional Authority.

Deputy Minister of Local Government, Harima Daudi officially elevated the four at Kasungu District Chamber following the presidential discretion to promote the chiefs.

"The president expects you to facilitate development and maintain peace in your areas by refraining from corrupt tendencies," said Daudi.

The deputy minister also urged chiefs to be at the forefront to ensure that people are strictly following Covid-19 measures by wearing masks, limit the number of people attending public gatherings including funerals and social distance.

"Our chiefs should encourage people to observe these measures otherwise it will be disastrous if we do business as usual."

Her sentiments were echoed by the Minister of Health Khumbize Chiponda who was also in attendance.

Kandodo Chiponda says chiefs should also assure their subjects that the Covid vaccine is safe.

"The president, his Vice, my self and other top government officials are more than ready to be vaccinated first so tell people not to fear anything.

While commending government, Senior Chief Lukwa of the district says the promotion will energize the four chiefs to work hard.

"We were only two senior chiefs including Kaomba but now we are five. I am so excited as it will reduce the burden of settling disputes where our services were on-demand," said Lukwa.

Kasungu has over 30 local leaders including senior chiefs, traditional authorities, and sub traditional authorities.

The function was held in the council's chamber where selected royal family members, council officials, MPs and Councillors were in attendance as covid 19 precaution measure.
