Leadership of some Pentecostal Churches in Malawi have embarked on a fundraising campaign aimed at reducing problems hospitals accommodating covid-19 patients are facing.

The move is being propelled by Prophet Shepherd Bushiri of Enlightenment Christian Gathering, Bishop Gilford Matonga of Evangelical Assemblies of Malawi, and Bishop Malani Mtonga founder of Word of Life Tabernacle.

Said Bushiri, "the war against covid-19 cannot be fought by the government alone hence the men of God coming in to help.”

The churches will stock hospitals with medical equipment crucial in covid-19 isolation rooms.

Bishop Gilford Matonga noted that most Malawians have lost hope due to covid-19 deaths and this is the time for men of God to restore hope in them.

"We have a responsibility as churches. Malawi will overcome the pandemic. But, we should not forget to follow preventive measures,” said Matonga.

Apart from raising funds, various religious groupings will be praying together asking God to intervene in the pandemic.
