Govt Set 861 Sites to Administer Covid-19 Vaccine

Government says it will use more than Eight hundred and sixty sites to administer Covid-19 vaccine which Malawi is expected to receive this Friday through Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe.

National Programs Manager for Immunization in the Ministry of Health Dr. Mike Chisema has told Zodiak on Tuesday that if need be, the sites will be scaled up.

"We want to start small and see what happens if there will be a need to open more sites. These sites are already in established hospitals across the country,” says Dr. Chisema.

Close to 900 medical officials are earmarked to take up the job as they already work under various programs on immunization.

Government is popularizing the new vaccine to its partners like the Malawi Interfaith Aids Association-MIAA and MANET+ and are expected to disseminate the information to their members.

A member of MIAA, the Prophetic Ministries Association of Malawi whose president is Prophet David Mbewe however complains of misconceptions that people have attached to the vaccine due to lack of information.

said Prophet Mbewe, "we are facing some resistance due to the knowledge gap about this vaccine. It is a new vaccine, and people need more information about it.”

Malawi is expected to receive the first consignment of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine this Friday. It is able to stand temperatures of between +2and +8 degrees Celsius which Malawi enjoys.
