MW Receives First Batch of Covid-19 AstraZeneca Vaccine

The First batch of the Covid-19 AstraZeneca vaccine consists of 360 thousand doses has arrived in the country through Kamuzu International Airport.

Speaking at KIA when receiving the first consignment, Health minister Khumbidze Kandodo Chiponda implored Malawians to continue observing Covid-19 preventive measures to contain the virus.

“I urge all Malawians to embrace this vaccine, let me dispel myths and false stories against this vaccine, it is pure and has been internationally commended by health experts much that even our president Dr. Lazarus Chakwera will by next week receive this very vaccine.

She says the frontline personnel like health personnel, teachers, and other vulnerable groups of people who are likely to be exposed to the lethal Coronavirus would be prioritized.

UNICEF Country Representative in Malawi, Rudolf Schwenk said children have heavily been affected by the pandemic hence their interest to invest its resources to rescue children’s continued suffering.

“When parents are affected by the pandemic children directly or indirectly are also affected.”

The Plane carrying the vaccines touched the ground at KIA at 4:06 pm.
