Police say the incident took place Sunday at Kaudza village in the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Njolomole in the district.

Ntcheu police deputy spokesperson, Rebecca Kwisongole, says on getting a tip about what was happening, officers rushed to the scene where they rescue the suspect.

"The suspect was caught by an angry mob while allegedly stealing fresh maize hence was later torched," said Kwisongole.

Police have since advised the public to desist from mob justice as it is punishable by law.
