Council Commends NGO for Supporting Youth

Kasungu District Council has applauded Good Health Organisation (GHO) for supporting 15 Youth Networks in the district with sports balls through Kulimbikitsa Ufulu WA Achinyamata (KUUWA) project.

Speaking during the donation Monday, Kasungu District Youth Officer (DYO), James Mathiya expressed his gratitude saying a lot of youth are misbehaving because they lack such materials to keep them busy.

“I’m very grateful for the support that Good Health Organisation has rendered to our youth, instead of them doing other practices like drinking beer and smoking or girls into prostitution during their free time they will be busy with playing netball and football which is a good development,” he said.

Mathiya urged GHO to consider helping the youth with indoor games like Chess, draft, and playing cards next time when they are donating regarding that some youth are not interested in such outdoor games adding that there are still cases of Covid-19. District Sports Officer for Kasungu, Kondwani Chakuzamutu thanked GHO for the intervention to support such sports initiative.

“On behalf of the council and the government, I am happy for this support which will promote sporting activities in communities which these youth hails from. The government is supposed to have such initiatives but due to shortage of funding, we fail to supply our youth with indoor and outdoor game materials,” he admitted.

KUUWA Project Officer for GHO, Stella Mbewe said that they have distributed the balls knowing that football and netball games are crowd pullers hence the messages would be relayed easily.

“Our aim is to reach out to a multitude of people across the district with the messages from all thematic areas which our project is targeting. Apart from that, we want to keep these youth fit and busy our messages will be spread to people during these games,” she said.

KUUWA project is working on Child protection, Sexual reproductive, and health rights plus fighting Gender-Based Violence (GBV) to mention a few whilst being implemented by GHO and Nkhamenya Mission Hospital with funding from Plan Malawi.
