Man, 44, Dies at Lingadzi Bridge Car Accident

Death has been recorded of a 44-year-old man after the motor vehicle; he was driving lost control and fell into Lingadzi River along Kamuzu Procession Road in Lilongwe on Monday morning.

Lingadzi Public Relations Officer (PRO), Salome Zgambo has confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Madalitso Chinyama.

According to Zgambo, the deceased was said to have been driving an unregistered Suzuki saloon motor vehicle from Area 18 Interchange direction towards Bwandiro.

She said eyewitnesses indicated that the deceased was driving through a point at Lingadzi Bridge where he lost control due to speeding.

“It had been reported that the vehicle swerved to the offside and it ended up hitting the bridge steel barriers.

“We have gathered that the motor vehicle overturned and landed on the riverbank across the river,” Zgambo said.

She added that due to the impact, Chinyama, who was alone in the vehicle sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Kamuzu Central Hospital.

Zgambo said the vehicle has been severely damaged.

Chinyama hails from Liti Village in Traditional Authority (TA) Kumtumanji in Zomba district.

Police is appealing to all road users to observe road signs in order to reduce road accidents.
