UDF Yet to Fill Vacant Post Of Veep For South

Padambo; We will fill the position soon Padambo; We will fill the position soon

The opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) is yet to fill the vacant post of party Veep for the South weeks after Lance Mbewe resigned.

But party Secretary-General, Kandi Padambo, says this should happen not long from now as the National Executive Committee has the powers to fill vacancies in key elected positions.

"We will meet soon as National Executive Committee (NEC) to discuss issues surrounding vacancies in the party.

"Our constitution gives power to NEC to fill vacancies in key elected positions hence the post of Veep will be filled once we meet," said Padambo.

However, political analyst George Phiri, says it is important for the UDF to adhere to dictates of its constitution on making appointments.

"If their constitution gives power to NEC in filling a position, then UDF has to act swiftly to avoid weakening the party," said Phiri.

UDF ruled the country under Bakili Muluzi between 1994 to 2004.
