MEJN Faults Nsanje & Salima On DDF & CDF Projects
The Malawi Economic Justice Network has faulted authorities in Salima and Nsanje for flaunting procurement procedures in awarding development projects.
Findings of the recent expenditure tracking exercise which the Malawi Economic Justice Network conducted in the two districts reveal gross contravention of procurement procedures in community development funds and district development funds.
The report also finds that there is dominance by members of parliament in identifying and implementing projects and that proper procedures when identifying contractors were not adhered to.
MEJN executive director Bertha Phiri has thus pointed on the need for transparency enhancement, and to redefine roles of councilors.
Executive Director for the Centre for Social Accountability and Transparency Willy Kambwandira has demanded that government should hold to account authorities involved in the mismanagement of the projects.
The report by MEJN also notes that some of the projects under CDF and DDF in the two districts are substandard.
