CDEDI Accuse IG of Nepotism

The Center for Democracy and Economic Development has accused the inspector general of Malawi Police Service Dr. George Kainja over what they say nepotism in the Police Service Commission.

According to Executive Director for CDEDI Sylvester Namiwa, the inspector general should publicly apologize to Malawians for being nepotistic and for what he described as “lying to Malawians.”

Namiwa alleges that during a meeting his organization had with the IG, Dr. Kainja refuted claims of nepotism but investigations by CDEDI reveal otherwise.

Addressing journalists in Lilongwe on Wednesday, Namiwa alleged that Dr. Kainja has sidelined officials from the southern region from serving in top positions within the police service.

James Kadadzera who is the National Police Spokesperson has declined to comment on the issue.

When contacted, Dr. Kainja declined to comment on the matter saying what transpired during the meeting with him and Namiwa is only meant for the two parties and not for the public.

CDEDI has since given Dr. Kainja a seven-day ultimatum to address the problem and failure to do so will prompt the good governance advocates to seek legal intervention.
