SACCOs Chapter Two Donates to Special Needs Centre

Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization (SACCO) Chapter two has stressed the need to assist children with disabilities to have access to education for them to become reliable citizens who will assist in the country’s development.

SACCOs Chapter two Vice-Chairperson Lieutenant Colonel Richard Chidzungu said this in Nkhotakota on Saturday when they donated braille equipment worth MK6.5 million to Nkhotakota L.E.A Primary School Resource Centre, a special needs learners’ section, to assist in smooth teaching and learning.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Chidzungu, they decided to donate to the Resource Centre after learning about challenges the school was facing.

“We have members all over who live in the community. Some of our members told us about the challenges the Centre is facing so we decided to help,” said Lieutenant Colonel Chidzungu.

The donations were on the 2021 International SACCO Day Celebrations under the theme “Building financial health for a brighter tomorrow.”

On the day SACCOs Chapter two donated 1 Braille embosser, 20 Braille paper perkings, 1 Jaws Computer, 4 Perkins braille, 1 Printer and food staffs including 20 bags of maize, 10 bags of rice, 4 bags beans, 8 bales of soya pieces, 5 bales of sugar and cooking oil.

DWASCO SACCO also handed over a teacher’s house they have renovated at the Centre.

Head of Nkhotakota Resource Centre, Muhammad Muhyuddin said the donation has come at the right time as the equipment will assist ease teaching challenges.

Said Muhyuddin, “with this donation we are going to save money which was meant for food and use it to buy other learning and teaching materials.

They have supported us with some braille papers and other braille equipment which are also very important to us.”

Nkhotakota Resource Centre has 30 learners with disabilities including those with visual and hearing impairments and albinism.
