SADC To Lobby For Industrialization Funding

Director for Industrial Development and Trade at SADC, Dr. Khutula Sibanda, says there is a need to establish funding mechanisms that can boost industrialization in the region.

Starting this Monday, government agents and representatives of the private sector will convene in Lilongwe for the five-day 5th SADC industrialization week and exhibition.

The purpose is to explore productive capabilities which can transform industrialization in the South African Development Community and promote intra trade in the region.

Addressing journalists in Lilongwe on Sunday, Dr. Sibanda said there is a need to come up with strategies that can promote industrialization, with a focus on funding.

Malawi’s Minister responsible for industry Roy Kachale Banda is optimistic that the summit will drive Malawi's industry in the right direction.

The exhibition is being held under the theme Bolstering Productive Capacities in the Face of COVID 19 Pandemic for Inclusive, Sustainable Economic and Industrial Transformation'.

Malawi is the current chair of SADC, a grouping of 16 countries in southern Africa aimed at furthering regional socio-economic cooperation and integration as well as political and security cooperation.
