Schools Open for 2022 With Covid-19 Preventive Measures Wanting
First day of school opening has exposed that learners are not following Covid-19 preventive measures.
As learners have returned to school for the first term of the 2022 academic year, Zodiak has noted that some schools in Lilongwe, Karonga, and Neno are not enforcing Covid-19 preventive measures.
The school facilities are not meeting minimum preventive measures such as wearing masks by leaners, washing hands, and in some schools not even hand washing facilities are available.
This is despite a spike in cases of Covid-19 and Ministry of Education emphasizing the need to enforce preventive measures.
Our reporter Steve Kalungwe in Neno observed that learners and teachers are not wearing protective gear.
In Karonga, our reporter Adams Wundaninge says the situation is not any different, citing an instance of Karonga CCAP Primary School.
In Lilongwe, at Mtsiriza Primary School headteacher there Fredrick Chiphaka told us the school is still facing challenges to enforcing Covid-19 preventive measures.
Education Ministry Spokesperson Chikondi Chimala has cautioned that the ministry will not tolerate schools that are not abiding by the set measures, mentioning that the ministry will soon start inspecting schools.
The first term of the 2022 academic calendar which has started today is expected to end on 26 March.
