Public Accounts Committee of Parliament (PAC) has asked the Judiciary to compile a list of a backlog of cases in courts.

PAC Chairperson, Shadreck Namalomba responding to a directive by Chief Justice Rizine Mzikamanda that all outstanding cases be offloaded within 90 days said that the public is supposed to know the number of cases that have accumulated dust in the courts.

This was disclosed Tuesday through the Acting Register of the High Court and Supreme Court of Appeal, Kondwani Banda when he led a delegation from the Judiciary that appeared at the Parliamentary Committee.

Namalomba in an interview said the documentation will assist PAC to follow up on the number of cases that have been completed within the said 90 days.

“We will now hold into account those Judges if they do not comply with the directive.

“The next thing is to know the number of cases that are are talking about, which lawyers and judges have outstanding cases and in the 90 days, lets monitor dhow the directive is being complied,” said Namalomba.

Malawi Law Society has meanwhile described the directive as a step in the right direction.
