The Centre for Social Accountability and Transparency (CSAT) is pushing for speedy investigations into the double standards allegations case involving the suspended National Commission for Science and Technology (NCST) Executive Director, Elijah Wanda.

Wanda is accused to have been withdrawing salaries from two institutions NCST and Mzuzu University (MZUNI) where he previously worked as a lecturer.

CSAT Executive Director, Willy Kambwandira told Zodiak Online, the case needs to be treated with urgency to send a strong signal to other public officers against inefficiency.

"Mismanagement of public finances is one key indicator that continues to stand in way of the country's economic growth," said Kambwandira.

But NCST Board Chairperson, Professor Emmanuel Kaunda says they are yet to follow up on progress of the matter.

"We have been engaging the National Audit office on the matter and we are to finish the matter in due course," Kaunda said.

Few months ago Mzuzu University wrote NCST officials demanding a refund of K49 million which they claim Elijah Wanda has been receiving from Mzuni where he was a lecturer before joining NCST.
