New SPC To Sanitize Civil Service

New SPC To Sanitize Civil Service

Newly appointed secretary to the office of president and Cabinet Colleen Zamba has vowed to sanitise the civil service by ensuring that public resources are put to good use and every controller is being held accountable.

Speaking at Kamuzu palace after being sworn in as new SPC, Zamba said among others, principal secretaries will be given targets and will be required to provide quarterly reports.

She said any controlling officers failing to do the needful will be deemed not fit for the job.

"Malawians should expect that I will be realigning the civil service to the vision of the President, on jobs and public sector reforms," Zamba added.

She said she will also be discouraging unnecessary trips and meetings organized by some officers just to get allowances.

"I will be doing my best that there will be optimal usage of both human and financial in the journey to deliver," she added.

Meanwhile president Lazarus Chakwera who presided over the swearing ceremony has asked the new SPC to devise measures that would ensure the culture of laziness and incompetence among some civil servants comes to an end.

He also encouraged the new SPC to be focused and not be distracted by individuals who would want to frustrate her efforts.

Colleen Zamba, who until her appointment as SPC was head of the presidential delivery Unit is the second female to head the civil service after Hawa Ndilowe.

She has replaced Zangazanga Chikhosi.
