Three Councils Submit Rehabilitation Budget Estimates

Minister of Transport and Public Works, Jacob Hara Minister of Transport and Public Works, Jacob Hara

Minister of Transport and Public Works, Jacob Hara has revealed that only three councils have submitted budget estimates for rehabilitation works on roads and bridges that were washed away by the recent floods the country experienced.

The minister disclosed in Parliament on Tuesday, a majority of the councils are not complying with a call to submit the estimates.

This according to Hara is retrogressive as Government is taking all necessary steps to ensure quick recovery of those that were affected by two floods that hit the country.

“Possibly it is because they don’t believe that we can work on these roads because of where they are coming from but we are a different government and we mean business, we are not asking for the sake of just asking,” said Hara.

Minister Hara has since implored parliamentarians to push for the budget estimates from their respective councils.

Hara said “This is why I am asking the MPs to make sure that they trouble their councils and submit the estimates of all the damages that they were caused.”

Apart from concerns over delays to submit the budget estimates, MPs complained over the dominance of foreign companies in construction works. Minister Hara made an assurance, all is being done to ring-fence construction projects for locals.
