Malomo-Ntchisi Road Takes Shape

The Roads Authority (RA) has expressed optimism that the construction works on the Malomo-Ntchisi Road will be completed by the end of September this year as demanded by the government.

The project missed its initial April 2022 deadline, owing to persistent heavy rainfall among other factors, a development that has angered local leaders, including district local leaders and parliamentarians.

However, RA spokesperson Portia Kajanga has told Zodiak Online that there has been a tremendous improvement on the 7.7-kilometre stretch.

"So far the progress on the road has reached 78 percent as the contractor has started putting tarmac on it and we believe that everything will be concluded in the next two to three weeks," she said.

Kajanga hinted that the body is also expected to commence the construction works on the Ntchisi-Dzaleka road in Dowa district.

"Preparations for the project are going on well because currently we are just waiting for clearance from some government agencies. Once that it is done, we will let the contractors we have deployed to start working and this is going to happen in the next few months," she added.

Member of Parliament for Ntchisi North Arnold Kadzanja has expressed delight with the development, saying the project will help the district in a number of ways.

"As Ntchisi people, we are very happy to see that progress on the road has taken centre stage. This will help to ease transport challenges as well as accelerate economic activities of the district," said Kadzanga.

The Malomo-Ntchisi road is being constructed by China Civil Engineering Company with support from the Malawi Government to the tune of K4.1 billion.
