Conflict Views Over MW Police Driving School

Owners of private driving schools through National Driving Association of Malawi has questioned a decision by the Malawi Police Service to introduce a driving school which the institution claims will enhance road safety on the roads of Malawi.

President for the Association Grecious Kubwalo fears the move will suffocate driving school businesses in the country.

"We are very concerned with this move by the law enforcers and in all fairness they should reflect on this decision before it is effected," Kubwalo said.

Malawi Police national Spokesperson Peter Kalaya has however wondered with the concerns saying this drive will also need support of the Driving school association.

"We are not trying to take over the market but this initiative is one way of ensuring safety on the roads of Malawi," Kalaya added.

Legal expert Khumbo Soko casts doubt on the decision questioning whether it is legally binding.

Malawians on various platforms are also expressing dissenting views with some shooting down the idea stressing that this might become monopolistic if Malawi Police proceeds registering the Driving school.
