This comes as statistics indicate that currently, there are about 34 cases awaiting trial in different courts.

Speaking to Zodiak Online on Thursday after sensitizing people on the dangers of the vice in Ntchisi District, the organization's Programs Officer Reverend Robert Masikano said the figure was so alarming.

"We are concerned with the development as an organization because when people are being trafficked from one place to the other they face a number of exploitations," he said.

He has since called for a concerted efforts among stakeholders in the country to combat the malpractice.

He added: "We need to hold hands as a country if the battle against the vice is to be won."

Meanwhile, Senior Chief Vuso Jere of the district has asked the authorities to intensify awareness campaigns aimed at addressing the malpractice.

"There is need for more awareness campaigns because we have been complaining about this for so long as a nation. I would also like to ask our courts to be giving stiffer penalties to the offenders to ensure the malpractice is dealt with," said the senior Chief.

With funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through Glohomal, EAM is implementing an 18 month project in three district of country namely Ntchisi, Dedza and Kasungu aimed at sensitizing people on the vice.
