Launched on Wednesday, 24th August, the plan will among other areas provide support to advance health equity by working with local councils.

Partners in Health Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Sheila Davis as she unpacked the strategy encouraged stakeholders in the health sector to embrace the plan.

She added by tipping the Ministry of Health to invest in community health work.

“If we don’t have our eyes and ears in the community, we are not able to ensure that we are addressing the burden of disease so without the community health workers, we are not able to provide the health care that we want to provide for people,” added Davis.

The strategy according to Deputy Minister of Health, Enock Phale resonates with the MW2063 development agenda but he mentions that priority should go to increasing budgetary allocation in the health sector if Malawi is to build a resilient system.

“We need supporting structures, we need a health care system that can be trusted and we need to invest a lot into health care system,” said Phale.

Partners in Health has a total of at least 1200 community health workers spread across the country since inspection of its programs in 2007.
