NU DHO in Mobility Crisis, K-Motors Revives One Ambulance

The Ntcheu District Health Office says it is in a mobility crisis, as only four of its 10 ambulances are functional, serving a population of 800 thousand people across the district.

District Medical Officer, Dr. William Chimsanga adds that the current fuel crisis has forced authorities to withdraw four ambulances from some of its four health centres.

“The district health office has been faced with serious mobility challenges where one ambulance is serving 200 thousand people against initial requirement of serving 50 thousand people,” said Dr. Chimsanga.

He said this Saturday when receiving one it’s emergency vehicle while K-Motors in partnership with Kips Restaurant have revived.

“With the coming-in of the ambulance, we are now assured of having five emergency vehicles that will be functioning now but we still need more bail out to address the current mobility issues,” he added.

K-Motors director, Mansoor Karim revealed plans to fix one more broken emergency vehicle belonging to the facility.

“It is a concern that the facility is going through mobility challenges and needs swift support from the corporate sector,” he said.

Waseem Giga who is Kips Restaurant Managing Director, a partner to K-Motors in the gesture says he is concerned with the condition of the hospital hence pledging to improve the quality of health services at the facility.

On his part, Ntcheu West legislator, Simeon Salambula, bemoaned inadequate financing to the health sector.

“Looking at the challenges the district health office is going through, legislators need to lobby for more funding to the health sector aimed at saving peoples lives in communities,” he said.

Ntcheu District Hospital which is assisted by 39 health centers serves a population of at least 800 people excluding foreign nationals from neighboring Mozambique.
