82 Women & Girls Access Post Abortion Care in Ntcheu
Statistics from Ntcheu district health office show between July this year to October, 82 girls and women of reproductive age group have accessed Post-Abortion Care-Pac services in four health facilities in the district.
The district’s safe motherhood coordinator, Mwayi Sabola-Banda has however told Zodiak Online that despite more women now accessing the services, the facilities are facing inadequate Pac providers.
"The 82 accessed the services at Ntcheu district hospital, Katsekera, Lizulu and Kasinje health centres. We wish more could come to access such services to counter complications that arises," she said.
She disclosed that last year, two women died due to abortion related complications a thing which has not happened this year.
Meanwhile, Ntcheu Family Planning Association of Malawi-FPAM district manager, Given Chilimira is calling for more awareness on the services.
"On average we attend to two girls or women per day seeking PAC services at our facility. But we have noted that many are not aware on where to access the service," he said.
Under the Large Anonymous Donor-LAD project, FPAM is supporting Ntcheu District Health Office in providing PAC services to reduce induced abortion related complications in the district.
