Mass Child Registration Second Phase to Commence April- NRB

The National Registration Bureau (NRB) says it expects to roll out second phase of the mass child registration between April and May this year after completing the piloted first phase in November last year.

Ministry of Homeland Security, Principal Secretary responsible for NRB, Mphatso Sambo has however told Zodiak Online that during last year’s pilot phase in Lilongwe rural east, Karonga and Mwanza, over 600 thousand targeted children below the age of 16 were registered.

“The bureau is currently mobilizing resources before commencement of the mass child registration exercise second phase.

Besides that, we also need to increase awareness of the exercise as most communities had little knowledge of the importance of having their children get registered,” he said.

Child rights activist, Amos Chibwana is expecting the registration will promote issues of child protection in the country.

“Our hope is that the whole registration exercise will inform authorities when it comes to child protection issues once completed,” he said.

NRB targets to register 8.4 Million children below the age of 16 in six phases by the end of this year 2023.
