South Africa Gas Tanker Malawian Casualties At 5

One more Malawian has died in South Africa after sustaining injuries from a Gas Tanker explosion that occurred on Christmas eve.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson, John Kabaghe told Zodiak Online, the latest death brings the total number of Malawians who have died to five.

Kabaghe however denied disclosing particulars of the five but indicated that three were from the same family.

He added that family members of the five have asked the Malawi High Commissioner’s office in South Africa to have their bodies repatriated.

“The families of the affected individuals would like to have the bodies repatriated, our high commission in South Africa is working together with the families to support the process of repatriation,” said Kabaghe.

Out of the five, four people were from Thyolo while one person was from Karonga district.

The Gas Tanker exploded near a hospital in Johannesburg South Africa, killing 34 people including ten health workers.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson, John Kabaghe has told Zodiak, the ministry is in contact with their South African counterpart to get full particulars of the four.

The incident took place on Christmas Eve when a driver of the tanker hit a low bridge causing a huge blast.
