Germany Hands Over 3 IFMIS Training Laboratories to Mw Govt

In its bid to support Malawi’s public financial management reforms, the German government has handed over and installed 3 Integrated Financial Management Information Systems (IFMIS) training laboratories in the Accountant General’s Department.

The labs are fully equipped with computers, furniture and network. (2) training laboratories are placed in the Regional Treasury Cashier’s Office in Lilongwe and (1) in Blantyre.

Speaking on Monday during the handover ceremony Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), Germany, Barbel Kofler said the labs will facilitate the continuous training of public servants and thereby contribute to the sustainable and efficient operation of the new Malawi Government IFMIS.

“Germany is committed to supporting Malawi in strengthening its public financial management and the fight against corruption. The handing over of the IFMIS training laboratories, reflects this commitment.” said Kofler.

On his part Malawi’s minister of finance and economic affairs Sosten Gwengwe described the Germany government as a true partner in development.

Gwengwe said “The IFMIS laboratory centers are key to financial management of the Malawi Government and the achievement of the Malawi 2063 as they impact positively on service delivery across all sectors.”

Meanwhile Gwengwe says to ease pressure at the central government, government will train 3,500 accountants in addition to the 1,600 civil servants who have been trained to strengthen efficiency and accountability in public service.

Funding for the labs was provided through the German Government-Funded “Strengthening Public Financial and Economic Management in Malawi (PFEM)” programmme, implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation GmbH (GIZ).
