NPC Dares Private Sector to Lead in Development Goals Attainment
The National Planning Commission (NPC) has implored the business community to take a leading role in embracing policies for attainment of the 2030 UN sustainable development goals.
NPC Director General Dr. Thomas Munthali made the appeal on Thursday in Lilongwe at the official launch of a 2022 standard bank Report to Society.
According to Dr. Munthali companies and organizations need to support policies that can complement realization of the Malawi 2063 blue print.
The NPC boss also urged the bank to consider providing long-term financing to help the country create more wealth.
"NPC commends Standard Bank's novel approach and which is the first of its kind in the banking sector. The bank is helping to grow our resource mobilization efforts, and complementing efforts to realise our goals under MW2063 vision," said Munthali.
Standard Bank chief executive officer Phillip Madinga pledged the bank's commitment to continue its contributions to national development.
"We have been investing a lot in Health, Youth Empowerment, Education and Skills Development, responsible lending, financial inclusion and enterprise development," he added.
The Report to Society is an annual collection of Standard Bank's contributions to national development and designed using the bank's unique Social Economic and Environmental (SEE) framework.
