Justice Mtalimanja Sworn In As MEC Chair

The newly appointed Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) chairperson, Justice Annabel Mtalimanja, was sworn in at the High Court in Lilongwe on Friday.

Presiding over the ceremony, Chief Justice Rezin Mzikamanda challenged Justice Mtalimanja and two other commissioners to diligently follow the law in their duties.

Justice Mtalimanja committed to maintaining the integrity of election management in Malawi to ensure a free, fair, and credible election in 2025. She replaces Justice Dr. Chifundo Kachale.

Who is Annabel Mtalimanja?

Justice Annabel Mtalimanja is married and holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) degree from the University of Malawi (1999) and a Master of Laws degree from the University of Melbourne, Australia (2005). She is also a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, London (2021).

Before joining the judiciary, she worked with the Ministry of Justice and was appointed a High Court judge on June 19, 2013.

Additionally, two new commissioners, Reverend Phillip Kambulire and Dr. Limbikani Kamlongera, were also sworn in.
