Beware of Lighting – MET Warns
The Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services (DCCMS) has advised people in the country to be on the lookout for high intense thunderstorms as the rainy season begins in October.
DCCMS Director Lucy Mtilatila told Zodiak, with the heat being experienced people should expect intense thunderstorms, hence the need to be watchful.
She said people should avoid seeking shelter under trees as lightning usually strikes the tallest objects in an area.
Lightning killed 30 people in the country last year, according to Chipiliro Khamula, Department of Disaster Management Affairs Principal Information Management Officer.
