Eye witnesses have told Zodiak Online that the bag was left behind by one of the police officers. The officers had left the bag on the seat of the car he was riding with other officers.

“They had gone into a shop to buy some items. The cash in the bag was from road users fined for breaking road traffic rules.

“It was another police officer who was inside one of the offices at Thondwe police unit who noticed the missing bag. Later police mounted a hunt for the suspects,” said the eye witness.

The witness said one of the suspects was arrested when he was trying to change his clothes behind Thondwe ADMARC depot and his colleague later in the day.

The two are now in custody at Thondwe police unit.

Want to know how much cash was in the bag? Well, there was 267 thousand Malawi Kwacha, general receipt booklets and other items. Forty six thousand Kwacha has not been recovered yet.

Eastern region police spokesperson, Inspector Joseph Sauka, said would share more details later.
