Spokesperson for the ministry of Health, Joshua Malango, says the three cases are from Mbayani and Chiswe. They two are in quarantine at Limbe Health Centre.

The latest suspected Cholera cases were recorded on Friday.

This is coming only days after tests for the first suspected case came out positive.

Spokesperson for the ministry of Health, Joshua Malango, says health officials are meanwhile expecting results of laboratory tests within 48 hours.

“We are working hard to ensure that the problem does not assume epidemic levels.

“And until we have the laboratory tests, we cannot say, for certain, that the two new cases are Cholera. That is the procedure,” he said.

The suspected cases have originated from high density townships of Chilobwe, Bangwe and Mbayani where there are known sanitation issues.

In the meantime, health authorities are encouraging people to employ hygienic habits in a bid to decelerate further spread of the disease.

Dr. Gift Kawalazira is DHO in Blantyre. He said a number of other suspected cases have been released as they were clearly not Cholera cases.

"One of the three new suspected cases is also from Bangwe. That is where the first confirmed case is also from," Dr. Kawalazira said.

Cholera is a waterborne disease spread through unhygienic habits.
