Hospital Attendant Cuffed for Assaulting Patient

Police in Neno have arrested a hospital attendant at Neno District Hospital for allegedly beating up an 80 year old patient admitted at the facility on Sunday for stepping on a wet floor.

Neno District Hospital Public Relations Officer, Ganizani Mkwate, told Zodiak Online that the ordeal happened after the patient had stepped on the floor the attendant was mopping to answer nature's call, a development which angered the suspect, Mr. Maxwell Manyenga.

"It is true that one of our hospital attendants, Maxwell Manyenga, who was working on an afternoon shift, picked a quarrel with a patient, 80 year old Elliot Gilbert, after the patient had stepped on a wet floor as he was trying to visit the toilet," said Mkwate.

The patient reported the matter to police as the nurse on duty was not in the ward and within the hospital at the time of the incident.

"The attendant came to my hospital bed, and shouted me before hitting me with his fit on my left cheek", said Gilbert.

Meanwhile, the police who admitted to have arrested Manyenga, are yet to shed more light on the matter.
