On Monday, lawyers for Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) failed to wind up cross examining final witness for the petitioners, Anthony Bendulo, who argued before the court that some result sheets were manually altered and that some were not duly signed.

Bendulo also argued on areas of ballot stuffing, multiple voting and voting by unregistered voters.

In the case, candidates for Nsanje Central, Kaffa Mandevana, Nsanje north, Enock Chizuzu, and Chikwawa east, Foster Thipiwa, want the court to nullify the elections on argument that it was marred by irregularities.

One of lawyers for the petitioners, Wester Kossam, told Zodiak Online after the hearing on Monday that “the witnesses compiled all the evidence that had occurred in all three constituencies.

“The analysis by the witness had to encompass all that evidence and you can see that what we found in various tally sheets are different from what we also found on the results sheets that MEC had uploaded in their system.”

Kossam expressed satisfaction with the pace at which the case is moving, saying “we are all seeking justice. So counsels for the respondent have all the time to ask any question that they want and witness is there to answer the questions as they come.”

Lawyers representing MEC in the case said they will comment on the case on its final day.
