Scores of people whose property was allegedly destroyed during construction of Nkhonya-Thabwa road in Mulanje on Thursday petitioned the district commissioner for not being compensated.

Chairperson of the concerned people, Godfrey Madukani, said what they want is compensation on destroyed property such as trees tea and other crops.

“They push us from one office to another and our member of parliament, Kondwani Nakhumwa, told us the road belongs to the council and it is the council that will compensate us,” said Madukani.

Director of Administration at Mulanje District Council, Grey Nkwanda, who received the petition said he will forward the petition to relevant authorities for their response.
