Suspected Women Child Traffickers Nabbed in MJ
Two women have been arrested in Mulanje for allegedly trafficking a 14-year-old girl.
Mulanje Police Spokesperson, Sub-Inspector Gresham Ngwira, said the victim who is a primary school learner went missing on 14th March, 2020.
He said the two, Christina Nakali 32 and Olivia Mapeleka 24, allegedly took the girl to Mangochi where she was forced to sell beer and sleep with men at Nakali’s bar.
“Her mother started searching for the girl and met a certain lady who told her that Olivia Mapeleka had taken the girl to Mangochi to work at Nakali’s bar,” said Ngwira.
“Uncomfortable with the situation, the girl escaped and went back home where she reported the ordeal to her parents.
“We then arrested the two women and charged them with an offence of trafficking in children contrary to Section 79 of Child Care, Protection and Justice Act,” said Ngwira.
