An agriculture organization- One Acre Fund on Thursday presented 106 cartons of soap towards COVID-19 prevention plan in Mulanje district.

The donation, according to One Acre Fund Local Government Assistant, Frank Mkwaila, is a response to calls for support towards the district health office COVID-19 prevention plan

“We work with farmers who need to be healthy if they are to actively participate in farming activities; hence, supporting the health sector at this challenging time,” said Mkwaila.

He said to date, the organization has distributed more than 26, 000 bars of soap and coronavirus information flyers to farmers alongside training on hygiene practices prepared by ministry of health.

Director of Health and Social Services, Dr. Alinafe Kalanga, said the health office is overwhelmed with the support it is receiving towards COVID-19 prevention plan from various non-governmental organizations.

“We still need more support from other partners in the fight against spread of coronavirus in the district; nevertheless, we thank partners for responding to our request,” said Dr. Kalanga.

Meanwhile, District Commissioner for Mulanje, Michael Chimbalanga, says the council submitted its COVID-19 Contingency Plan to Capitol Hill for financial support.

“While waiting for support from Lilongwe, we are on the ground sensitizing masses on prevention of coronavirus that includes observing World Health Organizations (WHO) recommended hygiene practices,” said Chimbalanga.
