Commotion marred the Chikwawa full council emergency meeting on Friday when councilors and chiefs traded barbs as the councilors refused to discuss the COVID-19 preventive tough measures without a report from health and environment service committee.

The chiefs led by Lundu suggested that the meeting could proceed considering that Chikwawa district has registered a Covid-19 case while councilors led by Khofati Malunga insisted that procedures be followed despite the emergency.

This forced Lundu and other chiefs including Senior Chief Chapananga, TA Ngowe, TA Mulilima, Kasisi and Katunga to walk out of the meeting.

Lundu complained that it was not justifiable for Councilors to skip emerging issues.

The meeting later agreed that the health service committee should meet on Monday while tasking authorities to go and assess the RDP agriculture office, Ngabu Inn and newly constructed Chikwawa College at Ngabu as an option for an isolation center.

Chikwawa Health Office Spokesperson Settie Piriminta, says currently they are following 92 people who are suspected to have had contact with the COVID19 patient at Ngabu area.

She complained that communities’ hostility towards a person who has been found with corona virus at Ngabu and the health workers because of unnecessary fears.
