The Blantyre synod of the CCAP has refuted social media allegations that it has received K70 million to back the lockdown government planned to implement.

The Synod’s General Secretary, Reverend Dr. Billy Gama says the Synod’s support for a lockdown is not influenced by any institution.

“The Synod assures all members who may have been injured by the false allegations that it has not received any money as alleged.

“As an institution, we believe in transparency and accountability and shall continue to be accountable to members through our structure,” he said.

He said this on Monday in Blantyre when the Synod announced preparedness measures in an event of a lockdown to protect its congregants from the COVID-19.

“Every congregation must create a Whatsapp group where services of worship can be done and all communications. We will use Malawi Broadcasting Corporation and Blantyre Synod Radio for Sunday services,” Dr. Gama mentioned some of the measures.

Dr. Gama, however, said the Corona virus outbreak has hit the church hard financially in terms of offerings.

He, then, called on the church members to raise funds to support mission hospitals and health centers in areas by buying items such as personal protective equipment and sanitizers.
