Director of Health and Social Services in Blantyre, Dr Gift Kawalazira, says there is a need for more health support such as the Personal Protective Equipment as most (PPE) is disposable.

He said this on Tuesday after receiving COVID-19 support from Plan International Malawi.

“So far Blantyre has registered nine confirmed COVID-19 cases, one death and two have recovered. Currently we are continuing with contact tracing. We have also planned for worst cases by refurbishing facilities where patients will be admitted for treatment,” he said.

Plan International Malawi Interim Area Program Manager for Mulanje, Hilda Chidzule, said as a child centered organization, Plan Malawi has an obligation to protect children, parents and guardians from coronavirus.

“We have also been supporting training of health workers on COVID-19 and promoting prevention of coronavirus in all the country’s regions and that shows our total commitment in supporting towards the fight of COVID-19 in Malawi,” said Chidzule.

Apart from the PPE that included suits, gumboots, surgical caps and masks, the organization also donated two infrared thermometers, chlorine, and hand sanitizers.

On Monday, the organization made a similar donation to Mulanje District Hospital.
