Two major political alliances continue to remain silent on terms in their alliances as they race against time ahead of the Fresh Presidential Election on July 2, 2020.

As they maintain the terms under wraps, speculations have it that that some people within the UTM and Malawi Congress Party alliance are suggesting a convention to determine their torch bearer on the ballot.

Spokesperson of the UTM, Dr. Joseph Chidanti Malunga, has, however laughed off the speculation.

“You can’t stop people from speculating especially in an environment where people look for information. The most important thing is that we are in an alliance,” he said.

Dr. Malunga says that they “believe that who is going to be our candidate should not be an issue. The most important thing should be that an alliance which people had wanted has now been agreed to.

“Let’s move forward and see by the time we get to presentation of nomination papers; we will know who is going to be in front.”

His United Democratic Front counterpart, Ken Ndanga, whose party is in alliance with the governing Democratic Progressive Party, says their focus is to win the election.

“All I can say is that there is a mutual trust between the two political parties and that we will work together for betterment of our country. These are the things that we are focusing on. We have worked on a strategy that is going to give us a landslide victory come this election,” he said.

Malawians will elect president as ordered by the court after nullification of last year’s presidential elections.
