Unknown suspected robbers have killed a guard and went away with a Plasma screen at one of the hotels in the lake shore district of Mangochi on Sunday night.

Mangochi Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, Sub Inspector Amina Tepani Daudi, identified the deceased as 72-year-old Fraction Chirombo who was working at Mulangeni Holiday Resort.

Tepani Daudi said the incident was known after the supervisor reported for duties in the morning and found lights which were supposed to be switched off by the guard still on.

“As he inspected the compound, he found the body of the guard lying in a pool of blood with deep cut wounds on the head,” said Sub Inspector Tepani Daudi.

She said after going around the place the supervisor also discovered that a 32 inch Plasma TV which was placed in hall room at the resort was missing.

According to Tepani Daudi, postmortem conducted at Mangochi district hospital pronounced death as due to severe hemorrhage.

Meanwhile, the police in the district have launched a manhunt to arrest the culprits.

The incident has happened about two weeks after robbers also killed two guards at the estate in the district and went away with solar panels and water pumps.
