Officials in Nsanje have told Zodiak that most health officials and various village committee members there have been trained on COVID 19 with hand washing facilities placed in public places like markets by Concern Worldwide to the tune of over 19 million kwacha.
However, District COVID 19 Taskforce Chairperson who is also the District Environmental Health Officer, Fred Minyeliwa, said the health office is still in need of the personal protective equipment for the health workers.
"Yes we have managed to provide awareness to people on Corona virus but we need more support especially on personal protective equipment," said Minyeliwa.
Minyeliwa added that they are closely engaging their counterparts from Mutarara district in Mozambique to suspend cross border trade to stop the spread of corona virus.
He further stated that the better part of it is that Mozambican law enforcers have already started repelling Malawian businessmen and those that cross the borders to farm there.
Meanwhile, District Program Manager for Concern Worldwide, Tommy Chimpanzi, said his organization will continue helping the council in all activities to prevent the spread of the virus.
"We have trained 400 health workers on case management, active case finding and contact tracing and prevention," said Chimpanzi.
He added that his organisation has also trained 362 community based health committee members and reaching out to 54, 895 people with COVID 19 prevention messages.
Chimpazi further explained that they are now planning to train chiefs, African doctors and pastors on COVID 19.
